ULTIMATE MOMENT OF CONCRETE-FILLED CIRCULAR STEEL TUBES UNDER PURE BENDING

The section stresses of concrete-filled circular steel tubes under pure bending at limit state were analyzed. The longitudinal stress of concrete increases considering the concrete confined by the steel tubes in the compressive area; at the same time,the longitudinal stress of steel tube is less than the transverse stress due to the confinement effect. In the tensile area,due to the restriction effect from concrete to the steel tube,the longitudinal yield strength of steel tubes increases. According to the calculation model of the composite section at limit state,static equilibrium equations were listed,and then the formula for ultimate moment was presented and simplified reasonably. The accurate calculation results and the approximate calculation results of 59 bending specimens from references were analyzed,which show that both the accurate calculation results and the approximate calculation results are in good agreement with the test ones from references. Besides,the calculation results by simplified formula are also in good agreement with that by regression formula based on fiber model method from references.
