ANCHOR EFFECTS ON PLATE STRENGTHENED RC COUPLING BEAMS

Anchor bolts play an important role on strengthening reinforced concrete (RC) structures. In this study, firstly, double shear bolt tests are conducted to determine the actual load-slip relationships of the two types of anchor bolts, namely cast-in anchor bolts and dynamic set anchor bolts, and the bi-linear models are proposed to simulate the relationships. Then, the performance of plate strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) coupling beams are studied using nonlinear finite element method to investigate the effects of different anchor bolts. The validation of the numerical models is compared between numerical results of the load-rotation relationships of the beams and the available experimental results. The studies are particularly useful for practicing engineers to design bolt anchors to resist in-plane bending and shear forces.
