GRADUAL DAMAGE ANALYSIS FOR UNREINFORCED MASONRY WALL UNDER SHEAR-COMPRESSION LOADS

A gradual damage model has been built in this paper for masonry in-plane analysis. A micro-model was adopted,in which the character of masonry has been researched at the level of each component. In the model,firstly,the masonry wall was considered as a plane stress problem; secondly,both Mohr-Coulomb criteria and primary stress criterion have been followed to build a gradual damage meso-model. The software ANSYS was selected to model both mortar damage and brick damage. A gradual damage of masonry has attained and the effects of both mortar and unit to masonry damage have been researched under different axial compression ratios. The experimental tests results reported in the literature were used for verify the accuracy of this model. Result shows the gradual damage model is a potential effective way to research the damage mechanism of masonry.
