BENDING STRENGTH OF BAMBOO-STEEL COMPOSITE BEAMS UTILIZING STRUCTURAL ADHESIVES
The paper presented a new type of composite beam that consisted of cold-formed thin-walled steel U-section and bamboo plywood with adhesives. Experimental study of flexural behavior of 9 Ⅰ-section bamboo-steel composite beams were carried out by the parameters of the thickness of bamboo flange, thickness of coldformed steel and the whole section dimension. The failure process, failure modes, deformation behavior and bearing capacity were investigated and the main factors affecting bearing capacities were also discussed. The results show that the composite beam can form an excellent composite section and have higher bending stiffness and capacities; the composite beams also produced larger vertical deformation and smaller horizontal deformation and the bearing capacities in serviceability limit state were 30%-50% of the ultimate ones; the bearing capacity and stability improve with increasing thickness of bamboo flange and cold-formed steel and section dimension.
