FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS ON THE MECHANIC PERFORMANCE OF THE ENDPLATE CONNECTIONS WITH OR WITHOUT RC SLAB
Endplate connection is one of the main types for beam to column connections of multistory and high-rise steel structures. The reinforced concrete (RC) slab is advantageous for the strength and stiffness of the endplate connection,on condition that the effect between steel beam and RC slab is considered. It is necessary to analyze the effect of the slab on the composite joint. A three dimension finite element model was established to simulate the behavior of the endplate connection using ABAQUS. The model was verified valid by comparing numerical results with other researchers experimental results. The simulated results matched well with the experiment results in general. The endplate connections with and without RC slab are both analyzed based on the FEA model, respectively. It is shown that the rotation stiffness of the endplate connections with the RC slab increased, and the stress distribution of the endplate changed, and the tension of the bolt decreased. The conclusions are referred to further study for the design approach of this type of composite joints.
