UNIFIED PREDICTIVE MODEL FOR NO-STIRRUP RC FLEXURAL MEMBERS IN SHEAR/PUNCHING

Based on the predictive formula for flat plates in symmetrical punching previously proposed,an attempt was made to predict shear capacity of beams using a model of similar forms in both the primary variables included and their specific metrics. The results of the regression analysis justified the proposition that the original model for slabs can be applicable to beam prediction merely with a minor revision. The presence of such a unified expression can provide a clue to evaluate the shear capacity of common flexural members in general shear, which includes beam-like shearing and symmetrical punching as its particular extremes of unnumbered intermediate shear modes. Further, this might be of help to account for some important factors unduly neglected in many codes, say column rectangularity, loading location, etc.
