PRELIMINARY STUDY ON STATIC AND DYNAMIC BEHAVIORS OF FULL CABLE-NET SUSPENSION BRIDGES

This paper presents a brand-new structure form of bridges: full cable-net suspension bridges,which evolves from modem cableway bridges. Full cable-net bridges are attained by making two modifications to cableway bridges: First,their main cables (including longitudinal deck ones and stable ones) are intentionally pre-tensioned to higher value than that for the latter to increase gravity rigidity of cables before live loads apply on bridge decks. Second,in full cable-net suspension bridges,their suspending and transversal deck cables are substituted for all floor-beams which are very important structural elements in general cableway bridges,so the former become a kind of full spatial cable-net-suspending structure. Taking two bridges (a full cable-net suspension conceived one and an actual cableway one) as examples,static deflections of two bridges under communication live loads,as well as transversely inclining angles and lowest 10 natural frequencies of the new bridges by means of ANSYS software,are computed. The study shows that two improvements in full cable-net suspension bridges are feasible,and economical. Great initial stresses in main cables of full cable-net suspension bridges enhance the structural whole stiffness and produce much less deflections due to live loads than present cableway bridges do. Simultaneously full cable-net suspension bridges have better aerodynamic stability to resist wind than general cableway bridges. The types of structural members are cut. Finally,pre-tensioning actions on main cables can be implemented by means of the existed prestressing technique. In short,full cable-net suspension bridges are a new feasible structural form of bridges.
