BRIDGE PARAMETER IDENTIFICATIONS BY VEHICLE RESPONSES ON PATTERN SEARCH METHOD
Bridge frequency extraction by vehicle responses on FFT transformation is an attractive concept, which was proposed by Yang in 2004. The method is expanded in this study by the parameter identifications on the mathematical model, and not with signal transformation method. Both the bridge frequency and the common bridge parameters, such as bridge stiffness, can be identified by the algorithm. The identifications are achieved on the Pattern Search Method (PSM). PSM is considered to be a potential optimized method that can work on discontinuous and derivative-free data, which is not studied much in civil engineering. The identification feasibility on PSM is demonstrated with initial values that are either close to and far from the theoretical value, and investigated with a 10% white noises level. The identification superiorities on PSM are demonstrated with a general genetic algorithm on the accuracy, efficiency, and robustness. Bridge parameter identifications by the vehicle responses in this study offer a feasible method to indicate the bridge health with all the parameters in the vibration differential equations, excluding the frequencies.
