PRELIMINARY RESEARCH ON CONCRETE BRIDGE HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM BASED ON DETERIORATION OF MATERIALS
Bridge plays a key role in transportation and economy of a nation. The technology of bridge health monitoring has developed a lot in recent twenty years as many long-span bridges were built and the safety of bridges were paid more and more attention to. However,the applications of bridge health monitoring are mainly focused on long-span bridges,less on normal concrete bridges. In this paper,referring to the collapse of a concrete bridge in Canada,the urgent requirement of health monitoring for normal concrete bridges is analyzed and the concrete bridge health monitoring system based on the deterioration of materials is proposed. This system,mainly monitoring the performance of materials,monitors the resistance of structure in nature and sends warning and alarm when the structural resistance decreases to a dangerous condition. Finally,the frame,problems and prospective application of the system are summarized. The development of the system is meaningful for assuring the safety of concrete bridges,avoiding lose of life and property and decreasing the cost of maintenance.
