IMPACT RESISTANCE OF PAVEMENT CONCRETE WITH NANO-PARTICLES

The impact resistance of pavement concretes with nano-particles is experimentally studied. Both nanoTiO2 and nano-SiO2 are respectively used to be as the additives. For comparison, the impact resistance of plain pavement concrete, the pavement concrete with polypropylene (PP) fibers and the pavement concrete with both nano-TiO2 and PP fibers is also experimentally studied in this work. The test results indicate that the impact resistance of pavement concrete is enhanced when the content of nanoparticles is smaller. However, the impact resistance of pavement concrete is reduced when the content of nano-particles is larger. The enhanced extent of impact resistance of pavement concretes increases with decreasing content of nano-particles. The impact resistance of pavement concrete with nano-TiO2 is better than that with the same amount of nano-SiO2. The pavement concrete with nano-TiO2 in the amount of 1% by mass of binder has the best impact resistance. The impact resistance of pavement concrete with PP fibers is improved, and the impact resistance of pavement concrete with both nano-TiO2 and PP fibers is decreased. Finally, the linear relationship between impact resistance and flexural strength of concretes is obtained, which indicates that the impact resistance of concrete enhances with increasing flexural strength.
