SEISMIC ANALYSIS OF A MULTI-STOREY CONCENTRICALLY BRACED STEEL ASYMMETRIC IRREGULAR STRUCTURE

In this paper,a seismic analytical investigation of a suite of multi-storey concentrically braced irregular asymmetric structures subjected to pushover analysis and designed to Eurocode 8 is undertaken using OpenSees. The asymmetric irregular models considered typically possess a stiffer side (SS) and a more flexible side (FS) due to mass or stiffness eccentricity. The mass eccentricity is provided by uneven distribution of the lumped nodal loads at the top of each storey. The stiffness eccentricity is provided by the SS braced element being designed for torsion effects using the lateral force method in Eurocode 8. The results of the analyses identify the parts of the asymmetric structures that experience the greatest ductility demand, namely the braced elements at the SS of the irregular structure. Finally, the paper describes an approach to the investigation of the response of the highly nonlinear and rate dependent behaviour of these elements using a real-time hybrid test procedure.
