THE MULTI-DIMENSIONAL SEISMIC RESPONSE ANALYSIS OF UPER-ARGE HYPERBOLIC COOLING TOWERS

Cooling tower structure is a typical rotating thinshell structure. For more than 200m of super-large hyperbolic cooling towers,if the earthquake comes, the huge circular base is likely to withstand the impact of seismic waves from different directions, which makes the structure produce multi-dimensional vibration. Firstly, this paper uses response spectrum method to calculate the response of the super-large cooling tower under seismic action, and then,it adopts time-history analysis to study elastic seismic response of the structure under the action of onedimensional and bi-directional horizontal earthquake. The numerical results show that: the response of the cooling tower structure under the multi-dimensional earthquake is significantly greater than under the one-dimensional earthquake. The maximum displacement occurs near the throat of the tower, which is the weak part of the structure.
