CHARACTERISTICS OF ASPERITY IN CRUSTAL EARTHQUAKE SLIP MODELS

The asperity model proposed by Somerville et al. (1999) was adopted to solve the inhomogeneous slip on the fault using the simple descriptions of the source and crustal structure. The relation between the seismic moments and the area of the asperities in fifteen earthquakes are analyzed. The relationship of characters between the fault and the asperity are analyzed. The formulas of these characters are gotten. By considering each asperity as a sub fault with uniform stress drop in a finite extent, the regression between the seismic moment of the asperity M and the asperity area A is analyzed. Relation between seismic moment of all asperities and seismic moment on the fault are generally obtained by linear regression statistics.
