Yersinia pestis and Yersinia pseudotuberculosis diversity in the former Soviet Union and Mongolia
Molecular typing was used to understand the genetic diversity and relationship of Y. pestis and Y. pseudotuberculosis isolates from different natural plague foci of the former Soviet Union (FSU). DFR-typing was used for characterization of 235 Y. pestis isolates mainly from the FSU and Mongolia. DFR-types endemic for 27 natural foci were determined. In addition to 32 genomovars described previously we revealed 64 novel Y. pestis DFR-types. It was shown that not less than 56 genomovars are circulating at the territory of the FSU and Mongolia.
