Web Presence of Small Businesses in a Residential Community Community Informatics Perspectives on Local Commercial Information
This study analyzes the nature of information on the web about restaurants, bars, stores, real estate agencies and other small businesses in a residential community in the suburbs of Tokyo. All the businesses in the area near a train station are examined in terms of what information on each of them is available on the Internet, what differences are observed in amounts and contents of information according to the characteristics of businesses, and what roles such web sites as collecting many stores and restaurants play in sharing commercial information with community people. These analyses imply the importance of considering a variety of factors when planning and implementing information sharing systems for community processes.
