Building an XML-Based Quality Inspecting System for Tobacco Leaf

This paper design and implement of an XMLbased quality inspecting system for flue-cured tobacco. The system of flue-cured tobacco consists of 59 levels based on three criteria: group, quality and color. Group and color classifications were implemented using the color histogram technique. Data is transmitted by XML format in whole system, and the inspected results are shown in XML format ultimately. Quality criteria that can be determined from visual appearance of the leaves are implemented. These are the width, length, injury and waste tolerance calculations. An inspect system was conduct to investigate the performance of the proposed system using tobaccos obtained from Technology Center, Hunan Tobacco Industrial Corporation, experiment station, Changsha, China. The results showed that the method gives group and color classification accuracies of 83.8% and 92% respectively while the quality classification was far better than the experts visual inspection.
