Study on Metadata Model in Scientific Data Sharing System
Metadata is important for scientific data sharing system, where is necessary to describe nearly everything within the system in order to better manage the data resources. In this article, a brief overview of the constructing the Scientific Data Sharing System in China is given first, It is easy for us to find that metadata not only describe the content of scientific datasets, but the business and management process of the system. A new concept is mapped out after the literature review of the current situation of the study of metadata, we exploit the properties of the concept to develop a comprehensive and universal Metadata Model in the Scientific Data Sharing System, which is a multi-view and multi-level metadata model facing the need of customers. The National Natural & Science Resources E-Platform is one of the key scientific data sharing systems in China, which aims to provide an information sharing environment for better management of the data resources within the system. The study shows that t he previous metadata model better suits the platform and a specific metadata model is established. In the end, we give the main conclusions and extend our study to make the metadata model more executable, standardized and flexible.
