The sweetpotato catalog of CIPs germplasm collection:volume Ⅰ
We present the advances towards a comprehensive catalog of the worlds largest sweetpotato collection of wild species, landraces, and improved germplasm housed at the International Potato Center. The first volume of the catalog includes 426 accessions from Peru. Existing published international standards for morphological characterization,high-quality and standardized photographs, high throughput biochemical screening methods using near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy, and molecular marker (AFLP) were used for documentation. Morphological data with 11,076 data points were collected in the field at two locations in Peru (La Molina and San Ramon) in 2006,2008,2009,and 2010 and each experiment was replicated twice. The catalog contains 28 morphological descriptors; photographs of the whole plants, roots, leaves, and flowers; biochemical data of beta-carotenes,starch, iron, and zinc; and AFLP markers. The catalog is available online and as an electronic book. All versions were created using automated scripts. It allows drilling down from high-level summaries to individual data points. The online catalog is available via http://www.cipotato.org.
