Production of transgenic sweetpotato,I pomoea batatas (L.) Lam.

An efficient Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation system was established using embryogenic suspension cultures of sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.). Using this transformation system, IbLytB, IbMIPS-1, OCI ,bar,LOS5 and SOS genes were successfully transfered to sweetpotato cultivars,and a large number of transgenic plants were produced,some of which were proved to show excellent traits such as high carotenoid content,salt tolerance,drought tolerance,stem nematode resistance and herbicide resistance.
