Identification and evaluation of purple sweet potato variety Ningzishu
The purple sweetpotato variety Ningzishu 1 was bred through several generations of selection and identification of the hybrid seeds from openpollination using the purple sweetpotato line Ning 97-23 as the female parent. This variety was identified by the national variety identification committee and the variety identification committee of Jiangsu province in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Several years of production tests showed that the Ningzishu 1 was a high yield variety, its dry matter content of root was 27. 2％ ,and the anthocyanin content was 22.41 mg/100 g. The total soluble sugar content was 5.6％, and it was resistant to root rot and stem nematode. The Ningzishu 1 has been widely used in the production as a good purple sweetpotato variety of good quality,smooth shape and good marketability. It is a good gene resource of purple sweetpotato variety improvement for its character of natural flowering. Some institutes have used Ningzishu 1 as the breeding parent to breed several purple sweetpotato varieties such as Guangzishu 2 and Zhezishu 1 and etc.
