Effects of shading stress on root qualities of purple sweetpotato

In order to research effects of shading stress on root qualities in different genotypes of purple sweetpotato,artificial shading treatments were adopted. The results indicated that dry matter, total starch content and starch accumulation rate in the root of purple sweetpotato all would decrease significantly contrast to the control under shading stress. Shading treatments could not only significantly increase amylose content and the ratio between amylose and amylopectin,but also significantly decrease peak viscosity,break down,set back and pasting temperature of Jishu18. Shading treatments could improve soluble sugar and soluble protein in two varieties significantly. The response to stress of Jishu18 was more sensitive than Ayamurasaki. The results showed that the shading stress changed root qualities of purple sweetpotato and displayed different effect among varieties.
