Preliminary study of coronatine on yield and dry matter content of sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas L.) Lam.)
A field experiment was carried out to determine yield and dry matter content of three sweet-potato genotypes. Five concentration gradients of coronatine and 3 foliar-spraying treatments of growth period were arranged into a completely randomized design. Results showed that the yield of Jishu18, Xushu 18 and Jishu 21 are all sensitive to spray coronatine once (80 d after transplanting,T2) and twice (35 d and 80 d after transplanting,T3). Both treatments T2 and T3 increased the yield of three sweet-potato genotypes. The dry matter content of Jishu18 and Xushu18 also increased significantly when sprayed at 80 d after transplanting (T2), while yield and dry matter content of Jishu21 increased under the treatment T3 (sprayed twice on 35 d and 80 d after transplanting). The yield of Jishu18 and Jishu21 and the dry matter content of all the three varieties were increased significantly by coronatine at 0.01 Mmol ? L~-1,while the suitable concentration of coronatine on Xushu18 was at 0.1 Mmol ? L~-1. On the other hand, the dry matter content of Jishu21 decreased significantly when concentration of coronatine exceeds 1.0 Mmol ? L~-1. It is implied that sensitivity of three sweetpotato genotypes on coronatine is different. Thus,we conclude that application of 0. 01-0.1 Mmol ? L~-1 coronatine sprayed 80 d after transplanting may enhance yield and dry matter content of sweetpotato. It is suggested that suitable concentration and application period of coronatine have a positive effect on promoting the storage roots yield of sweetpotato.
