Study on agronomic traits and distribution of chlorogenic acid in different vine segments of leaf-vegetable sweetpotato

Agronomic traits of the vine,distribution of chlorogenic acid in different vine segments of two leaf-vegetable sweetpotato varieties Fushu 18,Pushu53 and their abilities to clear the DPPH free radical were studied in this paper. The results indicated that the leaves and petioles mostly distributed in vine segment 3,fewer leaves and petioles were present in segment 2 and none in vine segment 1. Stem dry weight had above 50% of total plant dry weight which was higher than those of leaves and petiole. The orders of chlorogenic acid content in vine from the highest to the lowest were long vine > middle vine > short vine,leaf > stem > petiole,vine segment 1 > vine segment 2 > vine segment 3 in Fushu 18,and short vine > long vine > middle vine,leaf > stem > petiole,vine segment 3 > vine segment 2 > vine segment 1 in Pushu 53,respectively. The orders of total yield of chlorogenic acid were long vine > middle vine> short vine,stem> leaf> petiole,segment 3> Segment 1> segment 2 in Fushu18,and short vine > long vine > middle vine,leaf> stem> petiole,segment 3> Segment 2> Segment 1 in Pushu 53, respectively. The DPPH scavenging capacities of different vine parts and segments were consistent with their chlorogenic acid content levels.
