Effect of topping on sweetpotato vegetable-use varieties

Five vegetable-use varieties, Pushu 53,Shangzhi 12,Jishu 10, Tebieshu, Yushehuang, were used for the trial of topping effect. Once topping was done at 100 days after transplanting,there was no influence to the vine growth of the varieties, while it significantly reduced root yield of Jishu 10 and Yushehuang,but not significantly affected the root yield of Pushu 53,Shangzhi 12 and Tebieshu. Pushu 53 and Shangzhi 12 showed a strong vine regeneration capacity with higher vine yield. Shangzhi 12 showed root yield of 0.76 kg per plant and Pushu 53 gave 0.66 kg per plant in the topping treatment. It is recommended that Shangzhi 12 and Pushu 53 are suitable varieties for conventional cultivation as tip vegetable.
