Study on the inhibition of the extract from purple sweetpotato against a-glucosidase activity
To study the a-glucosidase inhibition activity of different tissues (root, stem, leaves) from four varieties of purple sweetpotato (Ipomoea Batatas(L.)Lam).MethodThe inhibitory rate of 12 samples extracted from purple sweetpotato on the activity of a-glucosidase were determined by PNPG method in vitro. ResultjAII the extracts from purple sweetpotato could inhibit the activity of a-glucosidase in some degree, which varied with tissues and varieties. Among all water extracts from four varieties of purple sweetpotato, the root extract of Zishu15-6 showed the highest inhibitory activity a-gainst a-glucosidase, while the leaf extract of Yuzi43 was the lowest. The further study indicated that the inhibitory rate of Zishu15-6 root extract, Zishu15-6 leaf extract against a-glucosidase was about 35.73% and 33.2% respectively, and higher than that of acarbose which was 28. 74%.Conclusion The root,stem and leaf extract of purple sweetpotato have moderate a-glucosidase inhibitory activity.
