Growth and carcass traits of swine fed with sweetpotato silage mixture diet
A growth and carcass trial was conducted with a total of 4 crossbred castrate males and 4 female pigs of approximately 20 kg initial live weight distributed at random into two treatments to study the use of feeding sweetpotato leaves and vines silage mixture diets. Silage was used at 12% amount in the feed which balanced into growing and finishing phases according to protein and energy requirements. Result revealed that there was no influence on average daily gain (ADG),feed conversion ratio (FCR) and feed intake (Fl) of the two phases except overall ADG. There was no effect of treatment on carcass traits. It is suggested that sweetpotato leaf and vine silage can be used in the pig diet during the growing and the finishing phase, making it possible to use 12% of the feed to reduce cost of production.
