Bauxite resource and reserve modeling

Modelling is defined as the process of building spatial representations of mineral concentrations to support resource and reserve estimates as well as pit design and mine planning. Critical steps of the modelling process are reviewed, starting with the building of an exhaustive and validated database, followed by the analysis and interpretation of the relevant data to evaluate options and maximize the potential value of the resource. The review proceeds with the selection of modelling methods and parameters, including domaining and the optimisation of block size and search neighbourhood. Finally, risk analysis and resource categorisation are examined followed by the assessment and application of modifying factors to convert Mineral Resources to Ore Reserves. The review insists on control/validation of input data and modelling results, and on a multidisciplinary approach ensuring that all relevant geological, geotechnical, mining, processing and economical data are given due consideration.
