Research on local flow velocities and solids concentration fluctuation in suspension vessels, using different impeller systems
Large suspension vessels in various process applications have to be mixed to establish a very high degree of suspension uniformity. The emand for uniformity goes as far as less than 3% of concentration difference throughout the vessel has to be achieved. Also the local flow velocities produced by the mixing system, especially at the vessel wall are of interest to judge on the product scaling tendency there. Reliable data on local solids concentration and flow velocities are measured and recorded simultaneously and continuously with a new reliable system. These data recorded for three different mixing systems in practical operation lay basis for an objective assessment of the same, to establish reliable performance efficiency figures. The research aim is to establish reliable design data to create the most economical and process reliable system, for achieving high precipitation yields in alumina refining.
