Wasteless Nepheline ores processing assessment of commercial implementation of the process in Asia region
Nepheline raw materials are commercially utilized in Russia for alumina, soda ash, potash and cement production during more than 50 years. Now on the base of nepheline ores more then 1200 kt alumina, 800 kt of soda ash and potash, 5000 kt of portland cement are produced annually. Gallium is recovered also.During long period of commercial experience technology of nepheline processing reached rather high level and quite satisfactory economic efficiency. Under condition of full utilization of main raw material components there is possibility for successful competition to Bayer process of high grade bauxites.As a result of our investigations it was found that some additions of low grade bauxites (or some aluminosilicate materials) into sintering mixture may be useful to increase alumina production or to make variation of product mix, if required.It is to be noted that for successful implementation of nepheline process some special local conditions should be available. Huge deposits of nepheline ores are located in China, North Korea and in other countries. Some brief assessments of these raw materials will be done in the paper.
