On the liquidus of KF-NaF-AlF3-based electrolyte
The development of low temperature aluminum electrolysis makes possible to reduce the energy consumption and increase the lifetime of the cell, and, more importantly, it will allow application of inert anode to eliminate emission of greenhouse gases. The KF-NaF-AlF3 -based electrolyte is a promising bath in low-temperature aluminum reduction, but it is still lacking in basic data. In this paper, the liquidus of the electrolyte system, as well as the effects of CaF2 and Al2O3 on the liquidus have been measured at the (KF+NaF)/AlF3 ratio ranging from 1.3 to 1.5.
