Do joint ventures work?

There has been a wide range of joint ventures within bauxite, alumina and aluminium industries. The author has had direct experience in a number and a keen observer of others. Many have changed over time, including a change from growth to a focus on cost, and a reduction in the number of parties involved. The forms and rationale for, history of and observations as to the success of longer term business Joint Ventures are discussed.
