Organisational Safety Culture Assessment Tool: An Innovation for Measuring Safety Culture

Organisational Safety Culture Assessment Tool (OSCAT) is an innovation for measuring safety culture. The main feature lies in the methodological development and the establishment of the OSCAT itself. OSCAT is a self-assessment tool to measure the current state of an organisational safety culture. A computer aided using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet facilities provide field for the user to indicate the rating against the psychological, behavioural and environmental factors characteristics of safety culture. The computation of the score will able to dictate the current state of both the individualy and collectively on the factors characteristics of safety culture. The formulation is based on the established Safety Culture Framework in Construction (SCF1C) which was feasibly validated on the appropriateness, the ease of use, and the coverage by panels representing the industry players in Malaysia.
