Research on Torque-Angle Characteristic of Rotary Electromagnet of 2D Digital Valve

Since conventional electro-mechanical converter of 2D digital valve had limitations of large inertia and low dynamic response, a novel low inertia rotary electromagnet with coreless rotor structure was proposed. The axial magnetic flux generated by permanent magnet and the radial magnetic flux generated by excitation coils were superimposed and then electromagnetic torque was generated to drive rotor to track the input signal synchronously. Based on linear magnetic circuit approach the influence of key structure and operating parameters on the output torque of electromagnet was discussed. Then a special test rig for rotary electromagnet was established. Experimental reveals that the torque-angle characteristic of rotary electromagnet is very close to sinusoidal waveform with holding torque of 0.063NM approximately, and can be used as electromechanical converter of 2D digital valve.
