Enhancement of Color Images in Adverse Weather Conditions

The image often has low contrast and distorted color as a result of being significantly degraded by adverse weather. A new enhancement algorithm combining advanced histogram equalization with advanced multi-scale retinex is proposed according to the properties of the degraded image. The contrast of the image can be improved by the advanced histogram equalization algorithm, and the color of the image can be restored by the advanced multi-scale retinex algorithm as well. When the proposed algorithm is applied to images severely degraded by bad weather, experiments show that it can effectively remove degradation of bad weather from color images.
