Mass Properties For The VX-SAT Communications Satellite

The mass properties estimation is a delicate process in the approach for the design in a spacecraft. Accuracy mass property information, in the design phase for any spacecraft, can prevent overload of work and design mistakes that could increase the cost for the design in the development process. All this estimation process of the mass properties in summary is group works that have to be linked with every sub systems or design teams that conforms the preliminary tasks for the design of the communications satellite. The investigation is based over the VX-SAT project which is a system engineering exercise, realized in the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) like training for the engineers of the Bolivarian Agency of Space Activities (ABAE) in Venezuela. The objective of the paper is to demonstrate an analysis of the procedures in the calculation of the mass properties in this exercise using suitable softwares and the show the importance of the process to collect the mass budget information to get the more reliable results. Likewise includes the most important information of the VX-SAT system, preliminary requirements in the structure and finally all the methodology used to the analysis of the general estimation of the mass properties with its results.
