Research and Experimental of Acoustic Remote Control by the Oil Pipe Strings

The injection well is used to keep the pressure of oil layer by injecting water into the oil layer. However, the volume of water injected into different oil layers is always different. So remote control is needed to control the valves respectively in realtime. The traditional signal transmission methods such as mud pulse and electromagnetic wave are no longer suitable for signal transmission. Acoustic wave is used more and more widely in the downhole communication. In this paper, the oil pipe strings in the injection well are used as transmission medium. The effect of an oil pipes abrasion and the presence of joints are analyzed by transient analysis. The factors which affect the acoustic waves propagation are analyzed too. Preliminary field test is carried out to estimate the attenuation of the acoustic wave. In this field test, acoustic wave is proved to be a likely carrier to transmit signals. In the second field test, it proves that the acoustic remote control is a feasible method and the dowenhole instrument receive control signal transmitted on the ground successfully.
