Micro Sensor Network Node Design for Meteorological Parameter Monitoring
Wireless sensors networks (WSN) equipped with various meteorological sensors have been actively used for climate monitoring. The current means of meteorological data collection are indeed rather limited, and most of them depend on some very expensive weather stations whose disadvantages include cost constraint and inconvenience. Furthermore, previous studies are typically involved in the deployment and performance of sensor networks, but most research has barely considered the details of the hardware of the sensor node itself, especially for the sensors. In this paper, we focus on the design of a sensor node for meteorological monitoring applications. The selection and measurement principle of meteorological sensors are presented in detail to explore the possibilities of a practical and novel WSN-based climate change monitoring system. We also provide an overview of the sensor mode architecture and an insightful power characterization of the different operational modes. To our best knowledge, it is the first research work to design a novel wind device embedded in a WSN node, which has adopted a kind of MEMS wind sensor and rotation structure.
