Nanotechnology Development in China: a Perspective from Patent Analysis
This paper explores the development of five nanotechnology fields in China, including Nanomaterials, Nano-electronics & information, Nanobiology & medical, Measurement & detection and Mechanical & process. The results showed that China is making increasingly efforts to nanotechnology R&D and innovation, and the number of patents exhibited rapid growth after the year of 2000. The overall distribution of five nanotechnology fields in China was not balanced, and nano-materials technology apparently held the leading position in both Chinas research institutes and corporations. The investment in the other four technology fields in China domestic should be strengthened further. Chinas nanotechnology market has drawn great interest from foreign countries (regions), and 20% of the total patents were applied by foreign countries (regions). Different from China domestic situation, foreign countries (regions) have made great efforts to the R&D of nano-electronics & information and nanomaterials, in hope of occupying both nano-materials and nano-electronics & information markets.
