Construction of sterigmatocystin biosensor using aflatoxin-oxidase as molecular recognition element
Sterigmatocystin (ST), the highly carcinogenic and teratogenic mycotoxin as a precursor in aflatoxin biosynthesis, is found to be one of the predominant contaminating mycotoxins in foods- and feeds-stuff. Its molecular structure consists of a xanthone nucleus attached to a bisfuran structure and bears a close structural relationship to aflatoxin B1. ST has been classified as group 2B carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
