Introduction The intracellular protease from Pyrococcus horikoshii (PH1704) is a member of the DJ-11/ThiJ/PfpI superfamily, which includes proteins with diverse functions, such as the bacterial chaperone Hsp31 and hyperosmotic stress protein YhbO, and the human Parkinsons diszease-related protein DJ-11-5.
