Structural difference and functional cooperativity of two kinds of chaperonin subunits: α and β from the acidothermophilic archaea Acidianus tengchongensis S5
Introduction Chaperonins are ubiquitious, multi-subunit, and double-ring complexes that mediate the correct folding of nascent or denatured proteins. The acidothermophilic archaea Acidianus tengchongensis strain S5T grows in the Tengchong acidothermal springs in Southwestern China with an optimal temperature of 70 °C and pH of 2.5. To investigate the sturctual and functional role of the chaperonins from the archaea is important to understand the adaptability of the extreme enviorenment for acidothermophilic archaea.
