Biodiesel production catalyzed by RML-displaying Pichia pastor is whole-cells in isooctane system

Recently, enzymatic methanolysis using lipases has become more attractive in biodiesel production, since it is considered to be an effective way to overcome the drawbacks involved in the chemical process. The researchers are always looking for a way to reduce the cost of biodiesel production. Whole-lipase becomes an attractive process in practical biodiesel production, since it does not need to purify or immobilize in the manufacture. To date, there are few studies about the yeast displaying cells for biodiesel production except that Matsumoto et al. (2002) described the transesterification of triglyceride and methanol catalyzed by ROL-displaying Saccharomyces cerevisiae whole-cells, the methyl esters yield reached 78.3% after 72h.
