The Study of Influence of Fencing Handle Type and Handle Angle on Wrist for a Fencing Game

A long-term use of inappropriate handle type and poor handle angle may result in cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs) for wrist especially during fencing. This research evaluated the influences of handle types on workload of muscle strength distributed to the wrist during a fencing game via the EMG data. Subsequently, use different angle of handles to evaluate the fatigue performance on wrist as well as pre- and post-experiment grip difference. The results show that the handle type will affect fencers muscle strength distributed to the wrist. It shows that a viscounti-type handle has equally strengths for all muscle groups. Other types of grip are relatively easy to cause muscle fatigue. Different handle angles will not affect on the average workload of the wrist, but it will influence the strength of grasp. The handle angles in 21° and 24° show a vulnerability to fatigue for wrist muscles. We concluded that, for handle type, the viscounti-type handle is more appropriate with its handle angle at 21° to have better performance in effective hit rate and hit accuracy, but lead muscles to be easily fatigue. A handle angle at 24° shows a poor performance for hit rate and hit accuracy for fencers.
