A NOVEL PULSE DESIGN BASED ON SINUSOID GAUSSIAN FUNCTION FOR UWB COMMUNICATION

Based on the restriction of federal communications commission (FCC) emission mask, a novel pulse waveform design method for ultra wideband (UWB) communication based on combination of the second derivative sinusoid Gaussian pulses is presented. The second derivative sinusoid Gaussian pulses with diverse shaping factors and diverse spectral moving factors are chosen as basis functions. The weighting coefficients which based on least square error (LSE) are made certain act as linear combination coefficients of basis functions. The waveform is further optimized by tuning spectral moving factors and shaping factors. The bit error rate (BER) performance of the pulse amplitude modulation time hopping (TH-PAM) UWB system is analyzed in a multi-user environment. Compared with the Scholtz’s monocycle and combination of Gaussian derivative pulses, the simulation results show that, the pulse designed based on combination of the second derivative sinusoid Gaussian pulses has higher spectral utilization efficiency and better BER performance.
