8K4K-size Computer Generated Hologram for 3-D Visual System Using Rendering Technology
One of the research topics in holography is CGH (computer-generated hologram) that generates hologram by calculation. In CGH, 3-D objects were historically described by aggregate of point light sources. However, some methods are recently developed, in which 3-D objects are described by other ways in order to reconstruct more realistic or artistic 3-D objects. We introduce a study for the topic. In this study, 3-D objects are described by aggregate of surfaces, and they are illuminated by both a point light source and ambient light sources. This study uses the rendering technology in computer graphics directly in addition to the wave propagation. The size of hologram is 8K4K (7680x4320) pixels. Experimental system uses rewritable SLM (spatial light modulator), which means it reconstructs dynamic 3-D objects. Experimental results show the approach in this study reconstruct 3-D objects in response to the position of a point light source.
