Development of a Content-Based SMS Search System on Symbian Series 60 Operating System
This paper proposes and describes the development of a messaging solution for the Series 60 platform operating systems for mobile phone devices. The general aim of the application is to intensify the message browsing capabilities of Series 60 phones by maximizing convenience and flexibility for its users. S60 is currently amongst the most-used smartphone platforms in the world. It was created by Nokia, who made the platform open source and contributed it to the Symbian Foundation. The core objective behind this tool is to scan through text messages by searching for keyword(s) entered by the user and populates a list of text messages that contain the same. This application has been primarily developed on the Java 2 Micro Edition platform. However, it also employs Symbian application program interfaces (APIs) by communicating with a peer Symbian C++ application for crucial operations such as accessing a mobile phones normal in box.
