Effect of Microstructural Characteristics of Semi-Solid Slurry on Flow Behavior in Rheo-Diecasting of A356 Alloy
The rheo-diecasting was performed to investigate the effects of micro-structural characteristics on the feeding behavior and on the formation of flow defects. Three types of slurry making methods, such as liquidus casting (LC) , SSR, and H-NCM(Nano-Cast-Method) were experimented. In order to evaluate the quality of semisolid slurries made by the three methods, the factors such as the particle size of α-phase, the mean distance between α-particles (MDP), the globularity and density of α-particles were analyzed. Partial filling test in rheo-diecasting showed different feeding behavior and flow defects. Under the intense convection the flow of the secondary solidification phase was found with α-phase cohesively when the density of α-phase density was high and the microstructure of semisolid slurry was uniform. The tensile test was performed for the rheo-diecast specimens. Fracture surface was observed to investigate fracture mechanism.
