Effect of Squeeze Pressure on the Microstructure and Mechanical Property of Al-4Cu-1Mg Alloy
Squeeze casting process was used to produce a high strength and high toughness Al-4Cu-1 Mg alloy. A high-strength alloy with high ductility was successfully prepared by squeeze casting using a pressure of 60 MPa. It possesses an ultimate tensile strength of 385 MPa, elongation of 11% and a harness of HRB 61 in T5 heat-treated state. Effect of squeeze pressure on microstructure, phase constitution and mechanical property of the as-cast alloy was studied. The role of microstructure on the mechanical property of the squeeze cast alloy was also studied.
