Microstructure of Casting High-Silicon Aluminum Alloy with Additions of Co and RE*
It has significance to further enhance the high-temperature properties of hypereutectic Al-Si alloys for its utilization in manufacture of engine parts. In this paper, high silicon Al-20Si-2Cu-l Ni-xCo casting alloys have been prepared out with complex modification of RE-P, and the change of microstructure of the casting alloys under additions of Co and RE at the same time has been studied. The results show that, the content of Co varyingfrom0 -1. 5% has little influence on the refining effect of P on primary Si and the modification effect of RE on eutectic Si, but the amount of acicular RE-bearing compounds gradually increases with the increase of Co content. In addition, the addition of Co has the effect of neutralizing the harmful effect of Fe, and the Fe-contAlning intermetallic compound presents as particles instead of long needles.
