The Increasing Importance of Ladle Lining Technology in the Modern Ferrous Foundry

Casting quality,process control, cost, health and safety,and the environment are some of the many increasing demands being placed on the modem foundry. Pouring metal into the mould is at the heart of the casting process. Efficient and highly insulating ladle linings can contribute to ensuring the process is under control. Pouring temperature associated problems,such as poor metallic structure,lapping and poor surface finish are reduced. This paper detAlls the results of experimental work undertaken to investigate the impact of different types of ladle lining materials on the chilling during taping from the furnace to the ladle,and temperature loss on cooling which ultimately affects control in the casting process
